Sight Reading Factory

Pace High SRF Instructions

Generates Real Music

The sight reading and sight singing exercises produced are governed by many rules so that they make 'musical sense' in that they are rhythmically, harmonically and tonally appealing. In other words, although the music is computer-generated, it still sounds like real music.

Multiple Difficulty Levels

There are multiple levels of difficulty that progress with more complex rhythms, larger leaps, expanded ranges, and increased accidentals. The lower levels are appropriate for beginning level students while the upper levels would be a challenge for the most seasoned musician.

Unlimited Sight Reading Exercises

Subscribers to the Sight Reading Factory® will never again run out of sight reading material to practice. Every time the user clicks 'Generate Sight Reading', a brand new piece of music is composed. This allows the user to generate virtually infinite amounts of unique sight reading exercises for piano, guitar, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.

Completing Assignments on Sight Reading Factory

The assignments feature of SightReadingFactory.com allows students to launch sight reading exercises, and record their performance. Their educator can then grade the assignment, and give the student feedback. This page describes the following steps a student takes to launch and record an assignment:
  • Check the dashboard for due assignments
  • Check microphone level
  • Take the assignment
  • Review the assignment
Note: Students can complete Sight Reading Factory assignments on laptops, desktops, Chromebooks, and other netbooks using modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11. Students who wish to take SRF assignments on their iOS device (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) can do so using our free iOS app. Students taking assignments on Android smartphones or tablets can do so through the Chrome browser if the device is running Android version 5.0+ and Chrome version 48+.
  • Check the dashboard
Once educators enroll a student in their classes, the student will see assignments which are due for that class on their Dashboard in the 'Assignments' tab. The student will be able to launch the assignment if the assignment has not already been completed and the student has not exceeded the number of attempts allowed, as specified for the educator. Clicking 'Launch' does not count as an attempt by the student: an attempt is assessed only after the student sees the music for the assignment.
  • Check microphone level
When the student launches an assignment on a laptop or desktop, SightReadingFactory.com prompts them to make a sample recording and listen to it to ensure proper microphone sensitivity before proceeding. Some computer microphones will are too sensitive for recording instrument/voice performances by default. Once the student records a sample performance, they can re-play it. If it sounds good, they can launch the assignment. If it does not sound good, SightReadingFactory.com provides context-sensitive help videos to walk the student through adjusting their microphone sensitivity. The microphone level check is not required for students using the iOS app.
